Restoring Your Website from a Previous Backup

When a plugin update breaks your site or a file is accidentally deleted, you don’t need to panic. You can "wind back the clock" using Jiinubi’s integrated backup tools.

1. Shared & Cloud Hosting (JetBackup 5)

For most Jiinubi customers, JetBackup 5 in cPanel is the fastest way to restore data. It allows restoring individual parts of your site rather than the whole thing, which is safer.

How to Restore

  1. Log in to cPanel and click JetBackup 5 in the Files section.
  2. Choose Restore Type:
    • Full Backups: For total site failure. It wipes current data and replaces it with the backup.
    • Home Directory: Restores only files (photos, code, themes).
    • Databases: Restores your site's "brain" (posts, users, settings).
  3. Select a Date: Pick a Restore Point from the list (usually marked by date and time).
  4. Click Restore: Confirm the selection. Monitor progress in the Queue section.

Important:
A Full Backup restore will overwrite any changes made after that backup. For individual files, use the Home Directory option to restore only the specific file needed.

2. VPS Hosting (Snapshots)

If you manage a VPS, you likely use Snapshots. A snapshot is an exact image of your entire server at a specific moment.

How to Restore

  1. Log in to the Jiinubi Client Area.
  2. Go to Services > My Services and select your VPS.
  3. On the left sidebar, click Snapshots.
  4. Find your desired snapshot and click Restore.
  5. Reboot: After restoration, your server may need a manual reboot to finalize the state.

3. Manual Restoration (Backup Wizard)

If you manually downloaded a backup earlier (e.g., .tar.gz or .zip), follow these steps:

  1. In cPanel, click Backup Wizard.
  2. Click the Restore button.
  3. Select the type of backup (e.g., MySQL Database or Home Directory).
  4. Upload your backup file from your computer. cPanel will handle extraction and replacement automatically.

Post-Restoration Checklist

  • Clear Browser Cache: Your browser may remember the broken version of your site.
  • Test Forms & Logins: Ensure your database connection is intact by logging into your admin dashboard.
  • Check SSL: If restored to an older date, run the AutoSSL tool in cPanel to refresh your security certificate.

Tip:
Always take regular backups before performing plugin updates or major site changes to make restoration easier.
