Managing Your Dedicated IP Address
Most Shared Hosting accounts use a "Shared IP," where hundreds of websites share the same address. When you upgrade to a Jiinubi VPS or Dedicated Server, you get your own Dedicated IP Address. This is a unique numerical address (e.g., 123.45.67.89) that belongs only to your server.
The Benefits of a Dedicated IP
- Email Reputation: On a shared IP, if another user sends spam, your emails might go to the junk folder. With a Dedicated IP, you control your reputation.
- Direct Access: You can access your website or server files via the IP address even before your domain finishes propagating.
- SSL Compatibility: While SNI allows SSLs on shared IPs, some older devices or high-security apps require a Dedicated IP.
- Custom Applications: Essential for gaming servers, APIs, or private VPNs that need port forwarding and stability.
How to Find Your Dedicated IP
You can locate your IP in two places:
- Welcome Email: The "New Server Information" email you received when signing up.
- Client Area:
- Log in to the Jiinubi Client Area.
- Go to Services > My Services.
- Select your VPS or Dedicated Server.
- Your IP will appear in the Server Information or VPS Management section.
Configuring Reverse DNS (rDNS / PTR)
Reverse DNS (PTR) allows the internet to map your IP to a domain, which is crucial for email delivery (especially to Gmail or Outlook).
To set up a PTR record:
- Decide which domain will be your primary hostname (e.g., server.yourdomain.com).
- Ensure an A Record exists pointing the hostname to your Dedicated IP.
- Open a Support Ticket with the subject "rDNS Request" and provide your IP and desired hostname. Our network team will update the record on Google Cloud.
Multiple Dedicated IPs
Yes, you can have more than one Dedicated IP if needed—for example, to run multiple SSL-protected sites or isolate network traffic.
- Cost: Additional IPs are billed monthly.
- Requirement: You must provide a valid technical justification per ICANN/AfriNIC guidelines.
Important: IP Blacklisting
Since this IP belongs solely to you, it is your responsibility to keep it clean. If your server is hacked and starts sending spam, global authorities may flag your IP.
- Use strong passwords for all accounts.
- Install a firewall, like ConfigServer Security & Firewall (CSF).
- Regularly monitor your outgoing mail queue.
