How to Reboot or Reinstall Your Server

When managing a VPS, you act as the system administrator. Sometimes, your server might become unresponsive, or you may want to wipe it clean to try a different Operating System. Both actions can be performed directly from your Jiinubi Client Area.

1. Rebooting Your Server

A reboot is like restarting your laptop. It clears memory (RAM) and restarts the Operating System. Use this if your server feels slow, after a Kernel update, or if a service is stuck.

How to Reboot

  1. Log in to the Jiinubi Client Area.
  2. Go to Services > My Services and click your VPS.
  3. Scroll to the VPS Management section.
  4. You will see two reboot options:
    • Graceful Reboot (Soft): Safely shuts down processes before restarting. (Recommended)
    • Forceful Reboot (Hard): Like pulling the power plug. Only use if the server is completely frozen and Soft Reboot fails.
  5. Click the desired button and wait 2–5 minutes for the server to come back online.

2. Reinstalling Your Server (OS Reload)

Reinstalling is a "Nuclear Option". It wipes your virtual hard drive and installs a fresh Operating System.

⚠️ Warning: Reinstalling permanently deletes all files, databases, and emails on your server. Ensure you have downloaded important backups first.

When to Reinstall

  • Switching from Ubuntu to CentOS (or vice versa).
  • Your server has been compromised or hacked.
  • Configuration errors that are too difficult to fix.

How to Reinstall

  1. In VPS Management, click the Reinstall button.
  2. Select Your OS: Choose your preferred Operating System (e.g., Ubuntu 22.04, AlmaLinux 9, Debian 12).
  3. Set Root Password: Create a strong new password.
  4. Confirm: Type "CONFIRM" or check the box acknowledging that all data will be lost.
  5. Wait: The process takes 10–15 minutes. After completion, you’ll see a "Reinstallation Successful" notification and can reconnect via SSH.

Common Questions

  • Will rebooting delete my data? No. A reboot only restarts the system; files and settings remain intact.
  • Why is my server still "Offline" after a reboot? Sometimes the server gets stuck during boot (e.g., disk error). If it’s over 10 minutes, try the HTML5 Console or open a support ticket.
  • Can I reinstall just one part of the server? No. The reinstallation tool wipes the entire virtual disk. Reset a specific app (like WordPress) from within that app instead.
Pro Tip: Use Reboot for minor issues. Only Reinstall when absolutely necessary, and always keep backups to avoid data loss.
