Nameservers – The Bridge to Your Host

If you buy your domain from one company (like Namecheap) but your hosting from another (like Jiinubi), Nameservers are what connect the two. They tell the domain registrar:
“Hey, all the website and email services for this domain live over at Jiinubi.”

1. What Do Nameservers Look Like?

Nameservers usually come in pairs (or more) for redundancy and reliability:

  • ns1.jiinubi.com
  • ns2.jiinubi.com

Having multiple nameservers ensures that if one server is temporarily unavailable, the other can respond instantly—keeping your website online.

2. How Nameservers Direct Traffic (The Hierarchy)

When someone types your domain into a browser, a specific chain of events happens:

  1. The Registrar: The browser checks where your domain is registered.
  2. The Pointer: The registrar returns the assigned nameservers (e.g., ns1.jiinubi.com).
  3. The Authority: The browser asks those nameservers for the website’s IP address.
  4. The Result: The nameserver reads the A Record and sends the visitor to the correct Jiinubi server.

3. Changing Nameservers (When Moving Hosting)

The most common reason to change nameservers is when you move your website to a new hosting provider.

  1. Log in to the website where you purchased your domain.
  2. Locate DNS Management or Nameservers.
  3. Select Custom Nameservers.
  4. Enter Jiinubi’s nameservers and click Save.

4. Nameservers vs. DNS Records

These two concepts are commonly confused. Remember this simple rule:

  • Nameservers are the container (the vault).
  • DNS Records (A, MX, CNAME, TXT) are the contents inside that vault.
???? Important – The 48-Hour Rule:
Changing nameservers triggers DNS propagation. Because DNS servers worldwide must update their records, it can take anywhere from a few hours up to 48 hours for the change to fully complete.

5. Custom (Private) Nameservers

If you are a reseller, agency, or white-label provider, you may prefer not to expose the Jiinubi brand to your clients.

Instead, you can create Private Nameservers using your own domain:

  • ns1.youragency.com
  • ns2.youragency.com
???? Tip: Private nameservers help you appear more professional and trustworthy while still leveraging Jiinubi’s infrastructure behind the scenes.
