Understanding the Tracking Cookie (90-Day Window & Attribution)

Affiliate tracking relies on browser cookies to correctly assign commissions. This article explains how Jiinubi’s tracking cookie works, how long it lasts, and how commissions are attributed.

1. What Is a Tracking Cookie?

When a potential customer clicks your unique affiliate link, their browser stores a small text file called a tracking cookie. This cookie contains your unique Affiliate ID.

The cookie allows Jiinubi to recognize that you referred the visitor, even if they leave the website and return later to complete their purchase.

2. The 90-Day Cookie Window

Jiinubi provides a generous 90-day cookie duration, giving your referrals plenty of time to convert.

Example Scenario:

  • A user clicks your affiliate link on January 1st.
  • They leave the site to research hosting options.
  • On March 15th, they return directly to jiinubi.com and purchase a hosting plan.

Result: Since the purchase happens within 90 days of the original click, you earn the commission.

3. Attribution Model: “Last Click” Wins

Jiinubi uses the industry-standard Last Click Attribution model.

  • If a user clicks Affiliate A’s link, then later clicks Affiliate B’s link,
  • The commission is awarded to Affiliate B, because their link was clicked most recently.

The most recent valid referral link clicked before purchase is the one that receives credit.

4. When a Tracking Cookie May Not Work

In rare cases, a referral may not be tracked correctly due to browser or user behavior:

  • Private / Incognito Browsing: Cookies are deleted as soon as the browser session ends.
  • Manual Cookie Clearing: If the user clears their browser cookies before purchasing.
  • Different Devices: Clicking your link on a phone but purchasing later on a desktop without clicking the link again.

Summary of Attribution Rules

Cookie Lifetime 90 Days
Attribution Model Last Click
Multi-Device Tracking Not supported unless link is clicked again
Direct Entry Tracked if within 90 days of original click

Tip:
Because the last click wins, encourage your audience to click your affiliate link right before they are ready to purchase. This helps ensure your tracking cookie is the active one.
