Post-Purchase: The ICANN Verification Process

After purchasing a global domain (like .com, .net, or .org), there is one mandatory legal step you must complete to keep your domain active.

The Verification Email

  • Timing: Within 24 hours of purchase, you will receive an email from the domain registry with a subject line like "IMMEDIATE VERIFICATION REQUIRED."
  • The Action: You must click the verification link inside that email.
  • Why it Matters: ICANN (the global domain authority) requires all registrars to verify the owner's email address.
  • The Risk: If you do not click the link within 15 days, your domain will be suspended (it will stop working) until the verification is completed.
Tip: If you didn’t get the email, check your Spam folder or open a support ticket to have it resent.
